The Alfa Laval Aalborg XWi is an exhaust gas boiler designed for waste heat recovery from engine exhaust gas. The top mounted steam drums for natural circulation remove the need for circulation pumps and can be equipped with electric heating elements. The heating surface consists of a water tube evaporator section to generate high pressure steam. Additional heating sections are also available: Economizer, superheater, low pressure evaporator and/or hot water section to improve energy efficiency.
Alfa Laval Aalborg XWi – natural circulation exhaust gas boiler
- Maximized heat recovery potential for CO2 reduction onboard
- Simple, reliable and efficient operation with natural circulation
- No power consumption and mainte¬nance costs for pumps
- Compact unit, easy installation and clear responsibility
- Potential integration of electrical steam generation while engine is not running
The Aalborg XWi boiler with natural circulation offers savings in waste heat recovery systems and eliminates all typical problems associated with forced circulation systems, such as cavitation, water hammering and operation and maintenance losses.
The Aalborg XWi boiler drum can be integrated with electrical heating elements to utilize shore power connection for steam generation while on port. The heating surface configuration is flexible. The energy efficiency of the system can be increased by adding tube section for feed water preheating and/or superheating as well as hot water generation. The design of the heating surface can be tailored to the actual engine and operating conditions, maintaining sufficient exhaust gas velocity for the best self-cleaning effects within the design limits.
